Semi -Professional takes a look back at what was a season to remember for South Shields fans, surrounded by silverware.
The 2016/2017 season saw The Mariners gain promotion from Northern Division One while getting their hands on numerous trophies.
With an average attendance of 1226 in the league for the season, the fans played their part in what would be one of the club’s more successful seasons over recent years.
A 108 point league campaign saw The Mariners finish top of the league, who lost just twice during the season.
Forward Carl Finnigan was clinical in front of goal, netting 16 times in the league campaign whilst also scoring at Wembley in the FA Vase Final.
As well as league success, the side also won the FA Vase Trophy, Northern League Cup, and the Durham Challenge Cup.
The trophy-filled season came in what was a good few seasons for The Mariners. Either side of the 2016/2017 campaign saw more promotions, bringing the club three on the trot.
A further promotion in the 2022/2023 season leaves the Mariners in the National League North for the next campaign after an 8th placed finish in the division in the season just gone, with hopes to remain competitive and avoid slipping back down the pyramid.
