It was an unusual turn of events by Shirebrook Town boss Stephen Bodle’s own admission that led to a wedding preventing them hosting their playoff semi-final at home.

The clubhouse, the Shirebrook Staff Sports and Social Club, was already booked for a couple’s special day, and therefore the club were unable to use it.

Despite having to play Wakefield AFC 25 miles away at the home of NCEL Division One champions Parkgate, manager Stephen Bodle was delighted with his team’s 4-0 win without having their home advantage.

Speaking after the game that saw them emphatically reach the playoff final, Bodle said his team attempted to train on the pitch in midweek, but scheduling meant it wasn’t possible.

Bodle also said financial pressures contributed to chairman Ryan Smith’s decision to step away from the club in the near future alongside several other members of the club’s hierarchy.
