James Barrett-Sterling has an incredible passion for non-league football.

With over a decade spent commentating in Steps 3 and 4 with Carshalton, Kingstonian and now Merstham, Barrett-Sterling is a non-league legend.

He’s the voice of several special moments for players who wouldn’t even have commentary enjoying their goals without him.

Recognised in the streets by fans who love his work, Barrett-Sterling keeps fans who can’t get to games further afield connected with the club, something which is vital to keeping them invested in the team.

From losing his voice in third round of the FA Trophy after Carshalton came back to make it 3-3 against Barnet, to singing Michael Aziaya’s name after he scored a screamer, Barrett-Sterling has seen it all in non-league.

Semi-Professional caught up with the man himself to reflect on his time commentating in Steps 3 and 4.
